Dental implants are used to replace one or more missing teeth and to stabilize dentures or partial dentures. They are permanently affixed to the jaw just like a real tooth’s root. The process leads to a sturdy and secure smile that looks completely natural and allows patients to feel more confident, chew and speak better, and get their smile back in order — or even better than before.
Here at Lockhart Dentistry, we place dental implants for many patients who need one or more teeth replaced. The results are outstanding and our patients are consistently pleased with the process, recovery, and results. Below is more information you should know about dental implants and how we go about the process. Read on and see if dental implants may be right for you.
The process from start to finish will take several months. To start, the implants are placed in the jaw and are left undisturbed for three months. During this time the implants will “fuse to” the jaw. Once this healing period is completed the implants may be used to comfortably support crown(s), bridge, partial or a denture. You will care for implants just like you would care for your own teeth by brushing and flossing regularly. Any other specific care needs will be explained by Dr. Lockhart or by a member of his team.
There are certain cases that Dr. Lockhart would refer you to another surgeon for the placement of your dental implants. If this should be the case, Dr. Lockhart would be the “leader” for your case he would simply have that doctor place the implants but he would do the remainder of the treatment. Dr. Lockhart will let you know if he feels it would be in your best interest to collaborate with another doctor for your dental implants.
All-on-four dental implants are an option to replace all your teeth in one or both jaws. With proper planning, the process can be done in a day or two. The way this works is that four implants are placed into the jaw and a temporary set of teeth will be attached so you can leave that very day with replacement teeth. Once the bone has fused with the implants you will come back to have your permanent teeth made and fitted into place. In the meantime, you will be flaunting your new smile and eating with confidence with your temporary teeth. Only one surgery is required, making the all-on-four implants a choice patients can be excited about. While this procedure is a time saver it is not for everyone. Schedule a consultation with Dr. Lockhart to determine if this option or another dental implant option is best for you.
