FAQs

Your questions, answered.

How can I get my kids to brush their teeth?

Get them a fun toothbrush! Nowadays there are battery operated brushes that play music while they brush and some connect with an app and does games and giveaway prizes. Kids like that a lot! How can I prevent tooth decay?

By brushing your teeth twice a day and flossing at least once a day you will prevent plaque from sticking to your teeth causing less decay and fewer cavities. We also recommend using an electric toothbrush as they are more effective in removing the plaque than regular brushes. Make sure to visit your dentist twice a year for your annual cleanings and get fluoride at those appointments as it helps reduce cavities by 70%.

Do I need a mouth guard?

If you wake up in the mornings with a sore jaw or your jaw hurts and feels tense throughout the day, you may be clenching or grinding your teeth and you may benefit from wearing a mouth guard. See your dentist for an evaluation to determine which mouth guard is best for your situation.

How do I whiten my teeth?

Here at Lockhart Dentistry, we make custom form fitting trays that hold the gel on your teeth. Trays are worn for no longer than an hour and a half once a day for 2-3 weeks. After that, you can do a touch up to keep that white smile you’ve always wanted every 3-4 months as you deem necessary.

What is the best way to replace a lost tooth?

If you have a missing tooth, a dental implant is the best way to replace a tooth. This option feels and functions almost like a natural tooth.

Can I get Invisalign from my dentist or do I have to go to an orthodontist?

You can get Invisalign treatment from certain general dental offices that have been trained. Here at Lockhart Dentistry, our office has been trained by Invisalign and we do offer this service to our patients. We love to see the difference in our patients’ smiles because of Invisalign and how easy it is to use.
